Celestial Connections

The vision behind Celestial Connections was to create a sacred space that transcends the physical realm and breathe new life into the ruins at Lumsdale, nestled in the heart of Derbyshire.

In the year 2523, we live in a world of warring tribes and natural disasters where we yearn for our home to be a sanctuary of peace. It has been foretold that the return of the Sky Gods to earth will salvage humanity from an ill-fated future, so when a relic of the past – a radio – is found amongst the derelict buildings, it is immediately clear that this object is a means of communication with these deities.

The discovery of this relic is what motivates the construction this monastery, not merely as a place of worship, but to establish a deeper connection with the universe. It is this celestial devotion that strove to infuse the existing ruins with astronomical motifs and luminous spaces that invite the cosmos within.

The monastery will nurture our knowledge of the cosmic tapestry, where worship and research intertwine with the ever-changing dance of the stars ultimately helping to decipher the return of the Gods.

This site of pilgrimage will offer solace, enlightenment and a deeper bond with the wonders of the night sky.

BA (Hons) Interior Architecture and Design

Interior Architecture and Design at NTU has an incredibly long and rich history; with Interior Decoration taught at the first ever UK Art school, in the Waverley building during the 1950s.

Over the last 70 years, our programme has grown and adapted to meet the requirements of industry and social change, respond to trends, and deliver a degree which encourages students to look, think, critically appraise, and understand local and world issues amongst the principles of design.

We are a validated degree programme in which our students can join the Chartered Society of Designers, and we are members of the Interior Educators network. Our dedicated design studio in the Grade II* listed Arkwright building enables a studio culture which reflects professional practice, in a dynamic environment that challenges everyone to work collaboratively, share experiences and experiment with ideas.
