SOLAR SHADING INTERVENTION FOR AL DAR HEADQUARTERS

I was born and brought up in Ondo State, Nigeria. I studied BSC Architecture at the Bells University of Technology, Ogun State, Nigeria. I have worked for 2 years after studies and acquired skills such as AutoCAD, Revit, Lumion, and Adobe Illustrator to further my career. I then decided to a Masters's degree in Digital Architecture and construction. Exposure to the course has provided me access to a large pool of information as well as an understanding of the use of various digital software like Rhino & Grasshopper, IESVE, Mass Motion, Synchro 4D, and the concept of BIM. This course has equipped us with appropriate skills to solve problems and build social spaces in a futuristic way.

SOLAR SHADING INTERVENTION FOR AL DAR HEADQUARTERS

Sometimes Abu Dhabi tends to face intense sunshine, temperatures steadily above 100 degrees Fahrenheit with 0% chance of rain. In such extreme weather conditions, even architects listing environmental design as their top priority are up against a tough battle. Never mind that the sand can compromise the structural integrity of the building, the intense heat and glare can render a comfortable indoor environment relatively impossible if not properly addressed. This design proposes to mitigate this problem using a snapping facade, The basic snapping frame consists of one rotating beam and one fixed (i.e., stationary) beam, which is connected at the opening junctions, polyester membranes are designed to be placed in between the two beams, Various designs were explored that would efficiently cover the area between two beams when opened and be neatly folded when the beams close the gap.

Digital Architecture and Construction

In line with the Construction Industry Council (CIC) 2050 vision for the construction industry, the course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the theories, tools, and techniques used in digital architecture and construction. By focusing on the underlying methodologies and reasoning behind the software, the course prepares students to adapt to new technologies and software packages throughout their careers.

In addition to technical skills, students also learn design management and multi-disciplinary collaboration, essential for leadership positions in the field. The course's emphasis on sustainable design practices and historical building information modelling (HBIM) helps students develop solutions that are both environmentally responsible and respectful of cultural heritage.
