Lost in Thought

The project Lost in Thought calls out to those who have been affected by dementia and Alzheimer’s. A health centre that uses the concept of compression and release to enhance the effects of dealing with dementia; with the simple idea of using smaller spaces to amplify the impact of grand spaces, which can work both ways.

The scheme involves separating the public and private via one entrance, where the more private realm contains functions and activities that stimulate the brain, decrease the chances, and reduce the effects of dementia. The phenomenological approach to the overall atmosphere of the project is to give a homely and recognisable atmosphere, with three distinct areas reflected in the roof’s pitches, which then encases a private courtyard that resembles a garden space as if one was at home. Linking to the public courtyard through a ‘compressed’ space, will host events and utilise access from the site's surroundings.

Although the cure for dementia and Alzheimer’s is unknown, the project will provide a space for people to learn and discover.
